Dynamic Slotting

Learn how to keep Slot positions filled through pagination and filtering using Dynamic Slotting

Dynamic Slotting is a mode of the existing Slot strategy. Instead of locking positions to the overall ranked result set, it locks them to whichever response the shopper is currently looking at. The same slot configuration holds up across pagination, filtering, and sorting changes.

Dynamic Slotting adds randomization. A slot group can rotate which qualifying products fill its positions on every request, instead of always showing the same products in the same order.

Workflow

Every time Netcore Unbxd returns a Search or Browse response, for any page, filter combination, or sort order, Dynamic Slotting runs the configured slot groups against that response. For each group, it checks which of the ranked products meet the group's conditions, places the qualifying products into the group's positions, and fills any remaining positions in the group with the next best organic results.

Slot conditions are evaluated only against the products present in that response. If a shopper has filtered down to a specific brand or category, Dynamic Slotting only considers products that match both the shopper's filter and your slot conditions, not your full catalog.

Apply Dynamic Slotting

You can configure a Dynamic Slot rule at the same levels as any other promotion rule:

  • An individual Search query
  • An individual Browse category
  • A segment of shoppers
  • Globally, across all queries or all categories on a site

Rule precedence follows the existing promotions hierarchy. A more specific rule, for example one scoped to a single query, overrides a global rule for that query.

Set up a Dynamic Slot group

  1. Click the Slot button in the Set merchandising strategy section, the same way you would for a Fixed slot.
  2. In the mode selector at the top of the Slot section, choose Dynamic. New rules default to Fixed, so you need to switch modes explicitly.
  3. Enter the Slot size (N). This replaces the From and To range fields used in Fixed mode. It sets how many of the top positions in each response the group fills, counting from position 1. The field shows helper text reading "positions from top of response."
  4. Select the Attribute, Operator, and Value for the group's condition, the same way you would for a Fixed slot.
  5. Turn on Randomize if you want Netcore Unbxd to shuffle which qualifying products fill the group's positions on every request. Leave it off to always show the highest ranked qualifying products in the same order.

To add conditions within a group, delete a group, or publish the rule once you are done, follow the same steps described in Filter Slot. Those parts of the panel do not change between Fixed and Dynamic mode.

Choose Slots

Under Apply slots to, choose one of:

  • Page 1 only. This is the default. Slots fill the first N positions of the first page of results only. Later pages show fully organic, or Fixed slotted, results.
  • Every page. Slots fill the first N positions of every page the shopper views, including deep pagination and infinite scroll or offset based loading.
📘

Note

How Dynamic Slots interact with organic ranking on page 2 and beyond, under Every page mode, is still being finalized. Check with your Netcore contact before enabling Every page mode on a live campaign.

Dynamic Slots and Pin

Pin rules always take precedence over a Dynamic Slot group. If a Pin rule occupies a position inside a slot group's range, Netcore Unbxd shifts the slot group down to start at the next open position, and the console shows a conflict warning similar to "Pin rule occupies position X. Slot group adjusted to start at position X+1."

A Pin rule with no page scope defined cannot be published while Every page mode is on. Set a page scope for the pin, or switch the rule back to Page 1 only mode, before publishing.

📘

When Fewer Products are Qualified

If fewer than N products in a response meet a slot group's conditions, Netcore Unbxd fills the remaining positions in that group with the next best organic results. The shopper never sees an error or an empty slot.

If none of the products in a response meet a group's conditions, for example after a shopper filters down to a competing brand, the group is skipped entirely for that response. All N of its positions fall back to organic results.

Monitoring Dynamic Slots

Each slotted response logs which products were placed in slot positions, which slot group placed them, whether the selection was randomized or deterministic, and the group's fill rate. This data is available through the analytics event stream. A dedicated slot analytics dashboard in the console is planned for a later release.

Good to Know

  • Existing Fixed slot rules are not migrated automatically. You can switch a rule from Fixed to Dynamic, but you need to re enter the slot size yourself. The From and To range does not carry over.

  • There is no dedicated slot analytics dashboard yet, only the raw event data described above.

  • Dynamic Slotting does not deduplicate a product across rules belonging to two different active campaigns. The existing rule priority system still governs that case.

  • Dynamic Slotting runs entirely server side. There is no client side pre fetching or position hinting.

  • A slot group does not support its own expiry or time of day schedule. Use the campaign's existing start and end dates instead.
