Numeric Text Facets

Overview

Many catalogs, especially jewelry and hardware, use facet values that mix numbers, decimals, and units, for example, weights in kilograms or dimensions in millimeters. Before this feature, Unbxd facets had two limitations with values like these:

  • Alphanumeric facet values, meaning values that combine numbers with letters or units, were not supported.
  • Decimal values were not sorted in correct numeric order. A facet list could show values like 1, 1.1, 1.7, and 1.8 out of sequence, because they were being sorted as text rather than as numbers.

This feature addresses both. Facets built on the right field type can now support alphanumeric values, and you can choose to sort those values in ascending or descending numeric order.

Edit Field Properties

Enable Text Numeric on a Schema Field

This is a schema-level setting, applied per field, and only available for fields whose type is Text. Fields of type Path do not support this setting.

To enable it:

  1. Open the schema for the field you want to update. The field's type must already be set to Text.
  2. Add or enable the Text Numeric setting for that field.

Once enabled, this also appears on the field's Field Properties page, where Text Numeric is set to true.

Use the Numeric Sort Order on a Facet

Once a field has Text Numeric enabled in its schema, a new sort order becomes available when you create or edit a facet built on that field.

  • If Text Numeric is not enabled for the underlying field, this new sort order option does not appear.
  • If Text Numeric is enabled, you can select it as the facet's sort order, either for a new facet or by updating an existing one.

What Shoppers See

With the numeric sort order applied, facet values that combine numbers, decimals, and units sort the way a shopper would expect, rather than alphabetically. For example, weight values on a jewelry site would sort as 0.75kg, 1kg, 5kg, 7kg, 7.5kg in ascending order, instead of being ordered as plain text. You can choose ascending or descending order. Special characters within facet values are also supported as part of this sort.
