On Click Facet Rule
Discover how the On Click Field Rule feature in Unbxd Console improves facet accuracy and consistency
Overview
The On Click Field rule introduces a more accurate and flexible approach to resolving facet field rules. Facets are filters displayed on category helping shoppers refine results.
Previously, field-based faceting was determined using an 80% heuristic rule, which meant that if 80% of the retrieved products matched a rule condition, for example, Brand = Nike, the corresponding field rule was applied. However, this approach failed to resolve the correct facet rules, resulting in inconsistent filtering behavior.
To address this, Netcore Unbxd introduced the Click-Based Rule Resolution strategy, which resolves field rules based on user clicks rather than heuristic thresholds. This ensures accurate facet rendering and improves the overall browsing experience.
For example, suppose a shopper is browsing the Jewelry category.
- Old Behavior (80% Heuristic Rule): The system has a rule to show the Necklace Style facet only if more than 80% of the products currently displayed are necklaces. If the initial product mix is only 75% necklaces, the Necklace Style facet might not appear, even after the shopper clicks on the Jewelry Type = Necklace filter.
This leads to confusion and an incomplete filtering experience.
- New Behavior (On Click Field Rule): The shopper clicks on the Jewelry Type = Necklace facet value. The system immediately and accurately resolves the field rule associated with that click and displays the relevant child facet, Necklace Style, without needing to check any product percentage threshold.
This ensures the correct facet appears in real-time, every time.
PrerequisitesBefore using the On Click Field Rule feature, ensure the below is done:
- You must have Super Admin access to modify site-level configurations in the Unbxd Console.
- Backend support must be available to process and store click-based rules.
- Access to the Merchandising tab under Site Details is required.
Steps to Navigate
To configure the Facet Level Rule Resolution setting:
- Log in to the Unbxd Console and navigate to User Profile icon > Site Details.
- Click Site Settings > Merch Settings.
- Under Facets Rule Type tab, choose the desired rule resolution method from the following:
- On Click-Based Rule Resolution: Rules resolve dynamically when a shopper clicks on a facet.
- Rule-Based Resolution: Rules are applied only when 80% of products match the condition.
- Click Save changes to apply the configuration.
Note
- This configuration is accessible ONLY to Unbxd Super Admins and is set at the site level.
- By default, Browse Facets will fall under Click-Based Rule Resolution and Search, facet resolution will work by default on 80% heuristic.
On Click Facet Functionality
When a shopper clicks on a facet value, the system immediately resolves and displays related child facets defined by the field rules. For example:
- When the user clicks Jewelry Type = Necklace, the system displays Necklace Style as a child facet
- And if the user then selects Metal Type = Gold, the Gold Karat facet appears without removing the previous facet selection.
This click-based approach eliminates dependency on product-level heuristics and ensures real-time and accurate rule application.
The table below explains the difference between Rule-Based and On-Click Field Rule:
| Parameter | Rule Based (80% Heuristic) | On Click Field Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Trigger | Based on product match percentage (≥80%) | Based on the shopper's click. |
| Accuracy | Can fail if products don’t meet the threshold. | Always resolves based on a click. |
| Performance | Static rule activation. | Real-time rule resolution. |
| User Control | Indirect | Direct and intuitive. |
Important Point to RememberThe system maintains backward compatibility, allowing existingrule based resolution to continue functioning.
Use Case
User Journey is as follows:
- Shopper lands on the Jewelry category page.
- Shopper clicks Jewelry Type = Necklace, then Necklace Style facet appears.
- Shopper clicks Metal Type = Gold, then the Gold Karat facet appears, retaining Necklace Style.
- Shopper clicks Stone Type = Diamond, the Carat Range and Center Stone Weight facets appear.
Expected Outcome:
All selected facets remain visible. Each click dynamically resolves associated child facets, and rules resolve in real time, reflecting the most recent user interaction.
This workflow ensures accurate filtering without relying on arbitrary thresholds, enhancing discoverability and relevance.
